Vineyard Development at Dana Campbell Vineyards ~
Pre planting – Irrigation and tilling came first between 2004 and 2006.
Initial planting was done on Pat’s birthday in June 2006.
The first summer and fall provided a lot of entertainment for our dog Rusty with all the new people on the property, and for Paula as she enjoyed watching the colors change.
Surviving the first winter was tough as it was pretty cold, but the wind machine worked when we needed it. And although the Viognier did not do as well as the Malbec and Tempranillo, our losses were not too bad. All were replanted the spring of 2007 and did very well through that first summer.
It was pretty awesome watching those first bud breaks and grapes come alive.
First Harvest for us was good in the September / October timeframe in 2007 as we did not expect anything and were able to compete with the birds as we did not net. We actually picked and delivered just under a ton of fruit ~ yes, the birds got at least that much too!! We will definitely net for 2008.
